Deus Ex Human Revolution was by and large a fantastic video game, but it was also a fantastic video game with a very distinct colour scheme. Almost every location in the game featured a blend of gold and black, but thankfully Jonathan Jacques-Belletete, Executive Art Director at Eidos Montreal has assured us that Deus Ex Mankind Divided is “less piss-coloured”. Charming.
Speaking recently to OXM, Jacques-Belletete had this to say on the matter…
“So HR [Human Revolution] was all about the enlightenment era of Transhumanism, which is where our black and gold palette came from, right? It was because black and gold was very much like Renaissance paintings. Now the world is more afraid of Transhumanism – so our gold and black palette has taken a back step with it. The new order is this corporate feudalism thing, so now the influence is a lot more medieval – a lot more desaturated, with blues, greys and matte browns. Deus Ex Mankind Divided will be less piss-coloured.”
So far the new Deus Ex game certainly looks like a visual treat, but unfortunately one that we will have to wait half a year longer for than we had originally anticipated. Deus Ex Mankind Divided was recently delayed from its initial release date of February 23 2016 to August 23 2016; a hefty chunk of time that will hopefully allow the developers to fine-tune the experience to nigh on perfection. Time will tell, but at least we don’t have to look at piss while we wait.
